Navigating Self-Blame
Many survivors of sexual violence blame themselves for what they’ve experienced at some point during their survivor journey. But why would we blame ourselves for the actions of others — and how can we challenge this?
Read our new blog post on self blame here...
https://www.rasacpk.org.uk/.../navigating-self-blame---a.../
Here is peek at what the blog looks at:
- -1. Self-blame can give us a sense of control.
- -Instead: Self-compassion can give us our power back.
- -2. Self-blame can help us stay connected.
- -Instead: Attributing responsibility correctly can free us to act.
- -3. Self-blame can help us avoid change.
- -Instead: Embracing change can allow us to grow.
- -4. Self-blame can protect us from facing what happened.
- -Instead: Self-acceptance can help us find a way forward.
Remember: What happened was not your fault. Healing takes time, self compassion, and self love — and you deserve all three.

Message from RASAC P&K
We have recently became aware of events and discussions connected to a speaker and group who were hosted locally at Abertay University- Dundee. We want to thank everyone who reached out to us to share their concerns and to make us aware of what has happened.
We understand that the presence of this group and the deeply harmful views they promote, including the minimisation of sexual violence, the denial of survivors’ experiences, and openly misogynistic and discriminatory beliefs have caused real distress and anger in our community.
For anyone who has experienced sexual violence, we know that this may feel especially painful and triggering. It is deeply concerning and disappointing that a group who openly advocate for convicted rapists and sex offenders were given a platform in an educational setting.
We will be reaching out to the Principal of Abertay University to express our concerns and the serious impact on students and the wider community.
As an organisation, we want to be absolutely clear:
- We stand firmly with survivors.
- We reject all forms of violence, hatred, and discrimination.
- We will continue to create and protect spaces that are safe, inclusive, and supportive for all survivors and for everyone affected by this.
If you are finding this difficult, please remember that you are not alone. Support is available. You can contact us directly through our phone line, sending us an email or by arranging to visit our centre. We are here to listen, to believe you, and to support you.

We can’t always prevent harmful voices from entering our community, but we can continue to counter them with empathy, truth, and care — for survivors, and for one another.
Over the coming days and weeks, we will be sharing additional social media resources and information on how to support survivors of sexual violence, as they navigate the many impacts this event has caused, such as disbelief, self-blame, shame, and silence.
